when to seek help?

My husband and I have been ttc for 10 months now. I'm 32, he's 46. I am ovulating, using opk, and everything seems normal.

At what point would everyone recommend making an appointment with a fertility specialist?

Hi Andrea- I was you a few months ago. I just saw a RE (fertility doctor) a few weeks ago. I went to my gyno but all she said was to go see a RE so it probably doesn't even make sense to go there first. I'd recommend calling in a month or so to get in and start testing. For us, they did a sperm analysis, tons of bloodwork for hormone levels, vagina ladies ultrasound on Day 3 of my cycle, and I got an HSG (which wasn't painful, don't listen to the Internet lol). Then they'll talk next steps but it feels nice to start the testing and talk to a doctor after a year of trying. Good luck and if you have any questions I'm here!

You can schedule a "preconception" check up now, and mention it to your doctor. They MAY start the ball rolling a little earlier or at least give you some tips! Good luck!

Doctors recommend trying for a year if you are under 35, and 6 months if you are over 35. I'd say go ahead and make an appointment for summer time. You can always cancel it!

Was trying for over a year I'm 33, husband 42 before we went to doctors. Now having blood tests done. Day 2-5 day tests were normal. Day 21 days ovulation wasn't. Now repeating tests just to double check before being referred. Husband got doctors to be referred for sperm tests.

I waited for exactly one year before my husband and I seeked help. Now being a year and a half past that, I can't believe I waited that long. If it will ease your mind, I would get the ball rolling now. I know how obsessed with it I can become, and stress is a evil thing on our health. Plus, getting in to certain doctors can take a couple weeks. Best of luck to you!

I think every OBGYN is different. I was trying for 6 months and started getting blood work done and my fiancee had sperm checked. By 8 months we were talking to a fertility specialist about our options. Everything was fine on my end. Had some sperm issues. Iam 33 and my fiancee is 26. So I honsetly think it all depends on the doctor. Currently getting ready for my first round of Clomid and IUI.
