COMING OUT: How can I come out to my parents?

Ev

Your first instinct might be to do it in person (and sometimes that's perfectly fine!) but many members of the LGBTQ community have found it best to write a letter coming out to their parents.

Having a piece of paper in front of them lets parents take the time to absorb the information.

Their first reactions might be of surprise or shock. Rest assured that they love you. Sometimes it takes a while for folks to accept that their daughter or son is queer.

After you've written and given them a letter (make sure to say that you love them!), ask your parents if they're ready to have a conversation about it. Chances are all will be a-okay :) If nothing else, it will make for a good story later!
