Same sex attraction, how does it happen?

Question

I'm curious to know, how do you believe a person develops their attractions toward other humans? How does one develop same-sex attractions or opposite-sex attractions? 
Are people born "gay" or "straight", does the attraction develop during early childhood or does a person make a conscious choice as to if they will be "gay" or "straight"?

I never made the choice to be attracted to men. I just am. At one point I thought, maybe I could be a lesbian, but I'm just not attracted to women in that way. I couldn't imagine someone trying to force me to be that way. So thinking of how so many people in society try and force gay people to change just makes me sad. Let people love who they love. Why does it matter?? And even if it is a choice for some people, who cares???? You know what else is a choice? Hating people for who they are, and being a bigot, and following a religion that preaches hate!!!

I certainly didn't make the choice to be demisexual any more than I chose to be born in America and be white. I can't fathom why anyone would make the conscious choice to be part of a demographic that is still very much marginalized by society. I always felt like a freak as I grew up and my friends started dating. I just never found it all that appealing and didn't find boys (or girls) interesting or appealing. Even my own husband was not sexually attractive to me until we had formed a deep, strong bond. I appreciate aesthetic beauty (male and female,) but I feel no sexual attraction at all unless a bond is already there, and my husband fits that bill. I have been asked if I was abused or assaulted as a child to be this way, or if I am mentally ill, and the answer to both questions is no- I just am, and equating orientations other than straight with mental illness and abuse is so harmful.

When I finally learned about demisexuality and asexuality and realized that there was a name for people like me and that O wasn't the only one, I cried. It was such a relief to finally know that I wasn't a freak. Here is an analogy explaining asexuality/demisexuality:

Human sexuality is a spectrum. Even people who consider themselves straight enjoy some sexual contact with the Sam sex and visa versa.

I think each person can be different. For persons with gender identity disorder, they seem to identify with the opposite gender during early or mid childhood. As the child grows, that identification spreads to their sexual preferences. For others, they may become attracted to the same sex after a trauma including the opposite sex or for no obvious reason at all. Perhaps sexual preference is more like the preference of bearded men or non bearded men, blue eyes over brown eyes, etcetera.

It's not really such extremities all time, some ppl they were that way and others it's choice. I for the longest time loved men and was blind sided when I actually developed a crush on a woman. We had a chemistry but it didn't work out. Sometimes it's about openess. I'm with the love of my life that so happens to be a man, if it was vice versa i'd still feel the same

In my mind guys are.. okay, but I only look upon girls as I would a sister or a friend. I do not want to kiss them, even though, I cannot reason why. I just dont care to do so. I have nothing against homosexuality. I find no fault in it nor any sort of wrong doing. 
In philosophy 
Our end is the pursuit of happiness which is pleasure or the abscesses of pain. If love is the ultimate end nothing can be held accountable against it. The law of nature provides us the right to freedom. Thus, one should be granted freedom in the pursue of love. Kant would claim it's everyone's duty for the greater good to decline from treating  others as mere means. Therefore, it's one's duty to protect another's wishes to the freedom of love. Just as we would protect ourselves, because in denying one's own truth is as rejecting our own humanity. This would reduce us into nothing more than means.

Also, 
It's potentially unrealistic to categorize people in this manner. Gay or not everyone is their own individual with independent views and reasoning.
