PERIOD POWER: What exactly is menstrual blood?
Though over 50% of the population has a period every month, many don't know exactly what menstrual blood is - or why it flows out of them.
Here’s the lowdown, girl. Your body builds up a uterine lining every month to make a comfy home for a fertilized egg to grow into a baby. When you ovulate and release an egg, if that egg isn't fertilized by sperm, it disintegrates into your uterine lining. When your body discovers that you're not pregnant, your uterine lining (which is part blood, part tissue, part cervical mucus and fluids) sheds.
Hello, period blood!
