why does this bother me so much?!

Question

I admit it... my baby looks like her father. Even more than that, she looks like her grandpa, my father-in-law. My husband comes from a good sized family. And guess what I hear from ALL of them. It's how much my daughter looks like their side.

If a my mother-in-law was a doll that said several phrases, one of them would be: "You look just like your father"

It literally what she says every time she sees my daughter. Ok, fine! I get it...

But why do I feel upset? Is it because I'm jealous? Am I still hormonal & emotional? What's my problem?

Does anyone feel this way?

I feel the exact same way!!! It makes me so sad when people say my daughter looks like her dad. It bothers me so much. My inlaw side even takes it further and says she looks like my MIL and SIL. My LO is super cute and I was hoping she'd be a mix of us two. She does look like her dad a lot but I can only hope she changes as she gets older bc I want her to look a little like me atleast.

Lol I've heard that when babies are first born they look more like the father so the male doesn't reject the offspring. Some theory about a male will kill the offspring if he detects it comes from a competing male so only his lineage succeeds. 
Anyway, it bothers me because our son looks like both of us but my family is out of state so all I hear is how much he looks like their family. All of their hair is thin blond and straight. My hair is really think curly and black... He has dark brown curly /wavy hair... They came up with " his father had curly side burns."...what the hell? Did I not carry him 9months and have a 30 hour labor just to have him exit via c-section?!

I think its a sureal feeling for MILs because saying your LO looks like dad is like they are seeing their own baby again. I donno how that would feel but in 20+ years to see my son as a baby again would just be a gift. 🙏

I know it's silly but my older son gets that all the time. Everyone on my husband's side says he looks like my father in law. He actually looks a lot like me. I think my 5 month old is going to look just like my husband. I always get told I look just like my mom but I actually look just like my Dad. I guess it's just how people see things.

I hated it when my daughter was born cuz my god she came out looking just like her dad! Not one tiny bit of me at all 😩 like come on I grew you inside me at least have something of me lol! But now she is getting bigger she is starting to change a lot and looks a lot more like me still with bits of her dad obviously. Just ignore them if it annoys you then saying that allllllll the time I did. Babies are growing and changing all the time x

My daughter undoubtedly looks like daddy, so that doesn't bother me... But he also has a 20 year old daughter from his first marriage and she looks just like her mother, and is an absolute spoiled brat who still refers to herself as princess... And my husband and his mother have started saying our LO looks like her. THAT bugs me. She does NOT look like her and she never be anything like her.

My husbands family loves to call the kids mini versions of him and his siblings. So my nephew is a mini Jeff (his uncle), niece is a mini Kristy (her aunt), etc. They keep saying my girl looks like her Aunt Becky and I want to be like, no she looks like me and her dad. She's my kid, not Beckys. But I realize it's dumb and petty, and people tell me all the time she looks just like me. People see what they want to see. 💁🏻

Everyone says that to me too! I definitely see it. She looks just like my nephew when he was little. I do get a little jealous too.

When our baby was little I would hear my husband comparing my baby to his birth family. 
Which would be fine if he had stopped every once in a while. 
I was a bit overly gleeful when he showed more of my family as he grew. 
I don't really like most of my husbands birth family, mostly because we don't know them well but they think they have a right to our child. And they don't. He's mine.

So, yeah. I kinda understand.

I feel this way too sometimes. We went to her doctors appointment, and the nurse came in and says "You don't look anything like mom, do you? Nope, you're all dad!" It made me so sad lol.. it seems like she got all her good traits from him, but got bad traits from me, like eczema for example. And I never really thought of that hurting someone's feelings until I heard it about my baby. I guess I'm just sensitive too. I'm grateful she's healthy, beautiful, and happy; still wished she looked like me a little lol.
