I have a baby girl coming in August, what do you think of her name being Phyllis??? Is it out of date?

Don't worry about it being out of date or what other people think, it's your child and if you really like that name you should use it :)

It just makes me think of syphilis :( Same as Lydia makes me think of chlamydia. Which sucks because I really like the name Lydia.

I have a friend called Phyllis, but everyone has called her Pippa since she was a little kid.

Ehhhh, I'd be careful with that one. I've never met a Phyllis that wasn't super old, so it might not be the best name for your young daughter's future resume. Besides that though, I wouldn't be surprised if it went out of fashion partly due to the cruel nickname potential: "Syphillis" and "Phallus". I've met a lot of middle school boys. You really think they won't pounce on that name?
