Okay ladies I am 19 almost 20 and I have been sexually active for years now. My doctor keeps telling me I don't need to go to a gynecologist but I keep seeing all of these comments saying that if you are sexually active you should be seeing one. Should I just go and get an appointment myself without a referral from my doctor? He told me that since I don't have problems I don't need to go. Also I've been with the same person for 3 years it that matters. I've only had one Pap smear done and that was when I was 16 at the local health department and my mom made me start taking birth control. When I started going to my family doctor he didn't do one when he started me on a new birth control.
