how are you introducing new food and your feeding schedule?

I feel stupid... don't know why this seems complicated to me? Think I'm making it more complicated than it needs to be.
My little guy is almost 6 months and for about a month every 2-3 days been giving him a couple tsps of a new food.
I read today that when you think they are ready, should start with 1-3 tsp a day of a veggie and fruit, sometimes protein and increase to 1/4 to 1/2 cup in 2-3 feedings. I'm confused. So a new food every couple days then increase what they are eating in 2-3 feedings.
Could someone tell me what they are doing and your schedule?! Thanks!
