Why does he do this? Ouch.

Question

Can any breastfeeding experts tell me if he's doing this because he's not getting enough milk? I've been mostly pumping for the past 9 months but I'm tired of it and want to exclusively breast feed.

Oh lordie looking at your pic makes my nipples hurt. It literally gave me shivers. Mine does this too I feel like when he gets lazy and starts fidgeting like he's almost full or full and is just sucking for comfort. So painful. Yes he's likely still getting milk but not a lot.

It may be because he's trying to stimulate another letdown. I wouldn't say you're not making enough milk--it's probably because he doesn't have to work as hard to get the milk when it's letting down. My son does the same thing because he likes the milk just falling into his mouth rather than working for it! Hope this helps!

My daughter does it when she's almost done feeding and fairly full already. I just watch fur the signs and put my hand behind her head to stop her pulling. 
My other 'favourite' is scratching my nipple with her sharp little fingernails - ouch! 😕

Ugh my daughter does this occasionally... usually if she eats close to the time when I've just finished pumping (when our schedules get thrown off). I usually burp her and switch sides. You can get your nipple out easily by putting a clean finger in baby's mouth next to your nipple to "pop the seal."

My LO did this when flow was too great for her as it slowed the flow. Does it feel like he's not getting milk out? Can you see him swallowing?

I'm still breastfeeding my 1 year old (12m) daughter and she's done this on several occasions when she was teething, when the flow was too strong and just randomly when she was sleeping. between 9-10.5 months I was so temped to quit because she was making breastfeeding really frustrating and painful but just push through it! It gets easier all over again and then when you hit a year it's awesome(:
