Anti depressants while pregnant ??

Question

I am going through a LOT with my husband's toxic family and I have been so down and depressed for weeks now, not to mention the crippling anxiety. I just can't go on like this. Has anyone taken anti depressants while pregnant ? I went through a rough patch a few years ago and was on Zoloft and Xanax and it really helped a lot, I just don't want to take anything that could harm my baby.

If you have hateful comments, please keep them to yourself as you have no idea what I am going through.

I've been struggling big time with depression and anxiety during this pregnancy (due mid may). My midwife wrote me a prescription for Zoloft. I've never been on anything before, but it's been a long time coming. Since the midwife seemed a little heavy handed with the meds I did some additional research. I spoke with a trusted ob, she said that Zoloft should be fine, except baby will have some in his system when he's born, and it can be a little uncomfortable for him to essentially detox. This can make him cranky, which will make dealing with a newborn even harder. And since I'm probably already going to be struggling with depression, it could make things more challenging. Also, she thought Paxil might be a better choice since I'll be breastfeeding and that drug doesn't make it to the milk as quickly (or something along those lines). She wasn't against Zoloft at all, and doesn't know my history, but in a perfect world, she'd have me hold off until baby is born, then immediately get on Paxil.  I've held out so far. My due date is about 5 weeks away and I consider picking up that prescription every day cause things are getting rough. You gotta make the decision that's best for you and trust your doctor.

I took lexapro for my entire pregnancy. Still taking it now while breastfeeding.

Your doctor can suggest something that will work for you. Maybe try counseling too?

I took Zoloft my entire pregnancy and my daughter was born perfectly fine! You have to take care of your health first. Just talk to your doctor about it and be as honest as you can.

My dr will be putting me on Zoloft for anti depressant and bi polar during my pregnancy:)
