Are stretch marks genetic?

Did your mom get stretch marks when she was pregnant? Did you get them? What's the best product to use to prevent them?

They are genetic. Your ancestors go back a long time and there's no possible way to know who you inherited them from if it's not already obvious, but if you have them, you did inherit them along the line somewhere. Even men get them, but because men don't get pregnant, they may not be visible unless they gained and lost a lot of weight. You can inherit them from any one of your ancestors without even knowing. It's all about how your hormones work during situations such as pregnancy, puberty, and weight gain.... how those hormones work for you can be genetic.

Yes they have a very genetic component to them. None of the women in my family have gotten them on their stomach (my boobs are covered though)

But it's about skin elasticity and hydration. If you are going to get them you cannot prevent them, but you can minimize them with hydration and after the fact scar creams. I wouldn't be too concerned with them though because you cannot prevent them. Just eat right and drink lots of water and be good to your body.

I've heard that they are , but it really just depends on the elasticity of your skin.  I've seen tiny women with stretch marks and then morbidly obese women with none ! I got a lot my first pregnancy! Like Freddie Kruger had a party on my belly and hips.  The next two pregncies I didn't get any. I suppose the skin was already destroyed !

My mom did and had 3 babies, I didn't and had 5... I have tiny ones that you can barely see on my butt but they came once I started my period
