So exactly how long do you wait after a missed period , to take a pregnancy test??

When I got a positive one I took it the day my period was due, because I was cramping but wasn't bleeding which is weird for me. Took 3 tests lol. Otherwise I normally wait a week or so, but that's because mine are so irregular due to my pcos
