How long will I need care after a C section?

My parents are flying in from our of state and staying with us after my c section on May 8th. My husband gets 2 weeks off for paternity leave as well. They want to know how long I want them to stay to help but as a FTM I don't know what the recovery from a C Section is like.  Any advice?

With my first I had a very long a rough labor and ended in an emergency c section.  I didn't push myself to get up and move when the nurses advised it and I could barely get up off the couch without help for the first week home.  By week 2 I was off pain meds.  Week 3 was comfortable to drive and walk around.  That first week was the hardest.

Now my bestie had an emergency c section at 35 weeks and her baby was immediately transported to another hospital with a higher level nicu.  She got up and pushed herself the first day so she could get released sooner to go to her baby.  She was walking through the hospital and driving herself the first week because it was necessary.

Every one heals differently but one thing I definitely learned is to get up and walk around as soon as they'll let you.

I was just reading about recovery times for different types of birth and it said that a complete recovery from a C-section could take up to 6 weeks and an uncomplicated vaginal birth 4-6 weeks. It said that it may not be advisable to drive after a c-section for up to 6 weeks but it would depend on how you are feeling and how everything is healing. I know many people who have had c-sections and they were up and about in 2-3 weeks!
