IUI or IVF?

Question

I've read plenty on both procedures, but I'm still a bit confused. I completely understand each of the procedures, but what I'm having trouble understanding is what makes couples decide on one or the other? I would just like as much background knowledge as possible before going to a clinic! Can you do IUI with stored sperm? Is IVF a "last resort" deal? What is a deciding factor on which procedure to go with?

Iui cost around 800 bucks, and ivf was quoted at 15 thousand. So that's one huge factor. Ivf is a pretty big undertaking with medication. We tried iui first because there is medically nothing wrong with either of us and the dr thought it would work. Had 3, get pregnant on my third but lost it early.

It all depends on your/your SO fertility problems. (Not to sound rude-sorry!!) like my doctor said straight to ivf for us because his counts are too low for iui and I don't ovulate regularly. But I wish you best of luck!!!!

IUI can be done with stored sperm. However, you probably have a limited supply.

The success rate of IUI is drastically lower than that of IVF, and so is the cost and time you have to dedicate.

It depends on how much you want to gamble. If you only have enough sperm to thaw a couple times you may want to go straight to IVF

Really depends on the cause of your infertility. But I wud start with at least  2-3 IUIs (1 unmedicated, and 2 medicated (injectable meds are best if you're over 35)

I'm curious as well. All of my blood work came back normal so they will put me on a less harsh version of clomid. Do an ultra sound to make sure it's working and then give me a trigger shot. After that me and my husband need to BD. I'm not sure if this has a name but that was the plan my fertility specialist made for me
