where is my period?

So I've had my IUD for almost 2 years now. It's the merina and I'm constantly scared because my period NEVER COMES I've had about like 7 real periods with it but I like don't even cramp or anything when my usual time of the month comes around -.- any advice or calming words of wisdom lol anyone else experience this vanishing act?

Lots of people with hormonal IUDs just stop getting periods all together in the first couple of years of having one, especially the Mirena; it's totally normal.

If you want the medical reason behind it (I don't have my MD yet tho, still a med student), it's because the progestin in the IUD suppresses your endometrium -- the part of your uterus that grows and gets thicker during your cycle -- just doesn't grow. Since your endometrium is a lot thinner, there isn't anything to shed in a monthly period. You may get spotting and some breakthrough bleeding, but the progestin IUD kind of just puts your cycle on pause.

Check in with the OBGYN nurse. I wish my IUD had worked like that. You've got hormones and the device working together. Light or no periods with the Mirena are common. Better to ask than worry about it. If you get an unfriendly/non informational response call another nurse and ask them to explain why your period is light or non existent with the Mirena IUD. Better to have more info about birth control and possible changes to your bod.
