how do you feel about your parents?

I know there a lot of younger people (under 20) on this app, I'm just curious how you all feel about your parents/step parents, and if you do or do not like them, why? What did they do to make you either like them or dislike them? I'm a step parents to teenagers and I want to best the step parent I can (within reason) I can be. I think some feedback from the younger individuals on this app might help me. Thanks in advance for contributing.

My mum and dad divorced when I was 18/19. I was closer to my mum. My dad met someone else and moved two hours away, she had three girls, two that lived with them and one that lived on her own, I hated dads gf at first. She always had to try and out do everything we had ever done and achieved and her daughters had always done that better etc. But now 8 years later, I haven't spoken to my actual mother in three years, and my dads gf is more like my mother. I love her and the girls to bits.

I have a stepdad and he has basically raised me, so I understand where he is coming from in certain situations; however, I am 17, soon I will be 18, and he still gives me no freedom when I am wanting to go out anywhere. Not just with my boyfriend (whom I have been with for almost 3 years), but also my girl friends. He would normally tell me to be home before dark on a Friday or Saturday night and it was when it would get dark at 7:30. My mom never has any say so because if she says yes and he says no, I better listen to him or my future plans will be ruined.

A little more information on me: I do not party. I do not do drugs or alcohol.

If/when you become a step-parent, please do not be overly strict like this!

My dad died when I was 10, my mom raised me and my brothers on her own. She's the person I admire the most and we have a wonderful open relationship

I get along with my parents now at the age of 22, but am not able to live with them in the same house, that just doesn't go well. But I am married and a stepmom myself of a 7 year old and 11 year old tween! (Both girls)... I've been a stepmomma for 3 years now and I can tell you it's HARD and it's been getting harder and harder... always having to feel like the third wheel in the family and never feel. Completely a part of the family. But when you do become close to your stepchildren it's beautiful to see them grow and it's amazing to grow close to them (when the bio-mother allows this, if you have a drama biomother this is a whole different story.)
