what do you think of this birth preference list?

I'm going to take it with me to my appointment Tuesday and see what my midwife thinks about it. What do you think? Any insight?

As long as you understand it can go out the window if there's an issue, I think its great. The only one I'd question is fetal monitoring, but that's my personal opinion.  If the hospital is ok with it, cool. :)

I have an honest question as I've never done this before myself. Is the hospital allowed to deny you any of this? Will some still not do delayed clamping or allow you to move around during labor? My hospital has tubs I want to labor in so if they're available, I'm hoping to use them even if I have a doctor and not a midwife.

I like how detailed it is and how you've orientated it for your baby to be with you for as long as possible before they clean the baby etc. Personally I'd bank the core blood but that's just me. Good luck on delivery 😃

I think this is a really good plan, just be open to changes. We could not delay cord clamping because my son pooped in the womb, and they needed to make sure he was ok. I stated that I didn't want pain medication, and ended up getting an epidural because I was so exhausted and in so much pain. Don't be so strict to stick to the plan that you end up suffering.

As a NICU nurse, I think your plan looks really great! The only thing I would reccomend is doing your own research on the benefits/risks of newborn medications and procedures before they are asking you if you want them in the delivery room if you are considering declining them. Every newborn routinely gets erythromycin eye ointment to prevent infection from bacteria introduced from the birth canal, a vitamin K shot to promote blood clotting as vitamin K is produced in gut flora of which baby has none yet. They will also recieve the hepatitis B shot or you can chose to defer that until you see your primary care doctor.  They also get bilirubin levels taken to evaluate for jaundice (could be by pressing a non invasivr tool against the forehead, transcutaneous, or by blood draw which is more accurate and will need to be done anyway if the transcutaneous is high). The last few procedures are required by the state, but I believe you can still decline them -  newborn metabolic screen which is a heel poke blood draw that checks for 50+ metabolic disorders that can have life long traumatic effects on a newborn that might not otherwise be discovered for some time, the hearing screen that just involves some ear muffs and skin probes to test hearing, and the congenital heart defect screening that only involves a skin probe on the hand and foot.  If you plan on declining any of these I really reccomend doing serious research rather than declining in the moment because your doctor didn't convince you it was necessary. Best of luck!
