Mock Crash before Prom
My former high school has prom this weekend. In hopes of encouraging students to make responsible decisions regarding the use of drugs and alcohol, they set up a mock car crash resulting from impaired and distracted driving. As one teacher shared on her Facebook page, "Everything was staged like a real accident. Students played the role of the ones involved in the accident. The mother of the girl who 'died' drove up screaming. State patrol, local police, ambulance, fire rescue, and even the morgue van driver were all involved."

As a former graduate and now a special education paraprofessional in the district, I am proud that they are taking the steps to go above and beyond the typical "Don't drink and drive - don't do drugs" spiel. When I was still in high school several years ago, drinking and other drugs were a common occurrence at high school proms within the entire city.
What are your thoughts on this method of awareness? Pros and cons and everything in between. Have you ever seen a mock crash such as this one at your school? If so, did it impact your actions/decisions in any way? Do you think this will be effective for the prom goers tonight or in any other situation where drugs/alcohol are present?
