Lost my pack, started new one, still safe?

I have been taking BC for months and lost my pack in the third week, with 5 active pills left before placebo wk. I panicked and immediately began a new pack so I wouldn't miss hormones. I took the whole new pack- but the problem is it obviously ended 5 days before it should have (if I would have taken 2 packs back to back to skip my period...took 37 active pills instead of 42). My period still came on time and I restarted my next pack 7 days after my last active pill. My question is whether I was protected those first 7 days I started the next pack despite mixing up the previous month?
