airport security when pregnant (my experience)

T
Hey ladies! This is for travel within the US. I just flew while pregnant, and I'm very early so it's not obvious by looking at me. There isn't research that the X-ray things at the airport actually harm the baby, but there just isn't much research on it, period, so I thought I'd like to avoid it. It maybe safe but with the opportunity to opt out, I opt out. I spoke with security when we got to the line and they told me what to do, and it's easy. When you get to the front where the scanner/X-ray is, just say "id like to opt out."  They don't care the reason but you do have to actually say the words "opt out" (or I was told that, anyway). They'll do a pat down which is a little intrusive but hey, much better than going through the X-ray and potentially harming our babe. It takes an extra 5 or so minutes. Not a bad experience. Just sharing for anyone who might be traveling soon and wasn't sure what to do at security.
