You want heat (not cold) for cramps. Heat will relax the muscles, cold will make them tense up more.

When I increased my iron my cramps and period turned regular flow and cramps disappeared. Don't know if it's the same for every woman though.

They sell little stick on heat pads similar to icy hot but its by therma care it doesn't have an icy part and it's specifically for cramps
