Mom and baby billed separate?

When you give birth were you and your baby build separate? How much did they charge you for the baby? Did your baby stay with you the whole time or have to go to nicu?

I was billed separately because there are two patients involved: you and the baby. I had a 5 day hospital stay, including an unplanned c section and two days in the NICU for my son. My bills totaled $33,000 before insurance. After insurance I paid $450 for myself and $450 for my son.

You and your baby will have separate bills. However, it depends on your insurance if the deductible and maximum out of pocket costs are separate or combined for your family. Call your HR department to figure out how to get the new baby on your insurance, generally you need to submit some forms and a certificate of birth (something they give you in the hospital, not the birth certificate from the state) within 30 days of the baby's birth.

I was billed together and it was $18k and I didn't have to pay anything insurance paid for it and I don't have copays for anything. No NICU or anything just a simple delivery.
