painful sex 😩

So the past few times I've had sex it's been hurting a lot. The first time I thought it was cause it was 4 years ago. But today I had it and it hurt so bad I tried to take the pain but then I started getting cramps and I told him to stop because it was hurting and we switched positions, it stopped hurting then started again towards the end. Is this normal?! It's been a little over a month since the last time.
