I used BBT tracking successfully  (along with tracking other symptoms like cm) as contraception method for over 5 years. I guess the thing that makes it safe is to really look for your fertile days and use additional contraception on these days.

I tried BBT, but I was too inconsistent with my temping. I use all my other symptoms to track my fertility, though! We don't use artificial contraceptives or condoms.
