My Birth Story!
I was 40weeks and 5 days when I went into spontaneous labour at about 2am. At first I didn't realize it as the contractions were very mild and only woke me up a few times. I thought they were just meaningless cramps as I have had cramping ans pain throughout my entire pregnancy. I didn't start taking them seriously until about 4am when they started to wake me up more often. At 530am they became stronger and I realized this could be it! So I woke my husband and we started timing the contractions. They were about 8-10 min apart. They weren't painful just discomfort at this point.
Now side note: I have Hemophelia B so my pregnancy was considered high risk. I was told as soon as I had contractions to come into the hospital to get checked as I had to have a blood product treatment before I delivered.
So! My husband and I established in was in labour and I should go in. So we took our time. Showered, ate breakfast and cleaned up the house a bit. We arrived at the hospital at 9am.
The nurses were pretty positive I was still too early and the were going to send me home. But because I was there already the had to check me. I was 3cm just 3 days prior at my doctor appt so they assumed I wouldn't have changed since then. I was 5cm!!!! They are shocked! So they had to keep me.
I was admitted and taken to my delivery room. At around 230pm they offered me an epidural as the doctor was available. It was my plan to get one but I didn't feel like I needed one yet. The pain wasn't that bad at all. But I decided to get it while the pain was manageable.
I had a ton of anxiety about the epidural. And the freezing hurt like hell so I had a panic attack and broke down crying. My husband had to sit down as he got faintish but not from seeing the needle but from seeing me in pain. Poor guy.
Once the epidural kicked in it was bliss from there on...! Up until they broke my water for me at 5pm. then it hurt! At 7pm The amount of pressure I felt was so unbearable! They decided to check me again. I had went from 5cm to 10cm in 2 hours! At 8pm they decided to let me push finally! It felt soooo much better to push than to have the contractions. At 840pm my little Thea was born! It was the most amazing feeling in the world to see her come out! Wow! I'll never forget that.
Immediately right after delivery as I was holding her crying I started to black out and feel like I was going unconscious. My nurses said my blood pressure was bottoming out and the doctor thought I lost too much blood. They started pumping me with multiple drugs and fluids to try to bring my pressure back up. They took my baby away cus I wasn't awake enough to hold her. I was terrified that was hemorrhaging and I was gonna die right there... finally after 3 hours they got my blood pressure under control but I was monitored closely throughout the rest of the night. They have no idea why my blood pressure bottomed out, they chalked it up to blood loss and shock.
After 12 hours of labour and 1 hour of pushing I got a grade 2 tear. But it was all worth it for my baby Thea! 💖 she is my world.
