Sudden interest in pacifier

My son is 13 months old and has been having a horrible time the past few weeks between teething, allergies, and the occasional cold. He's never had any interest in a pacifier, even when he was much littler. Today after trying everything to calm him down, he took a pacifier and now he doesn't want to take it out of his mouth! I'm weaning him off the breast right now so is this a big deal while we are going through this transition or did I totally screw myself by giving him a habit that has to be broke?
