My baby girl's birth story

Shell

On Friday 4/7/17 I was 38weeks + 3 days (due date was 4/18/17) and my day started out very normally, I got up, went to work and left for my doctor's appointment at 9:30 am, I fully expected to return to work but my baby had other plans. At my appointment I gave my urine sample and by the time I was in an exam room I felt like I was dripping wet down there... So my doctor comes in and asks how I'm doing, I mention the extra wetness, expecting it to be nothing at all, after checking me 3 times my doctor suspects a fluid leak. So we go to the other exam room with an ultrasound machine and she shows me how the baby has very low fluid surrounding her and that she was sending me straight to labor and delivery.

I called my boyfriend, he got all of our pre-packed bags by the door, we grabbed a bite to eat from a drive thru and we were on our way to meet our baby! Both of us were so excited and nervous and just totally caught off guard.

We arrived at the hospital at 11, at noon they inserted cytotech, they had me lay in bed for an hour until it absorbed. Then it was time to for me to walk the halls for about an hour and a half until my doctor arrived at the hospital to check on me. By the time she got there at around 3 pm I was already having small contractions and had dilated from a 2 to a 3. (I had been dilated to 2cm at my 37 week appoinment.) She then decided to break my water to get things moving along.

At around 4pm we got our own birthing room, and we're hooked up to pitocin and IV fluids. Things progressed very normally, contractions got more intense as the hours passed and the upped the pitocin, at around 10pm I was 5cm and having contractions about every minute and was just rocking myself and moving my hips in bed as they peaked, it definitely helped me manage the pain rather than just laying there still. So I decided it was epidural time. It took about an hour and a half to get the epidural once I asked for it. The hardest part about it was staying still, no one tells you that you will be shaking uncontrollably when you are in labor. After the Epidural I was so relieved! Its like experiencing a miracle when you are in the worst pain of your life and then you feel absolutely no pain. It's amazing.

So I quickly went from 5cm to 8cm and then from 8cm to feeling her head waaaay down in my birth canal.

So now it's after midnight and it's 4/8/17 (which happens to be my doctor's birthday, and she was on call so we were both really excited about that)

The doctor arrived at around 1:30AM, she is so down to earth and chill so the mood in the room was very relaxed and I was totally comfortable and ready to push. So we started pushing at 1:42, by 2:09 my baby girl was born and she was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen.

Her name is Kamdyn Luna 🌙 she weighed 6lb 15oz, 19inches long. Born 10 days early on 4/8/17 ❤
