Biologically, I don't see any evidence to support that human are specifically designed to be monogamous. Many humans practices non-monogamy.

But, we are socially conditioned to believe that monogamy is the one and only #lifegoals, and that polyamory is bad.

I can't remember the title, but Frederick Engels wrote an essay about this, and his theory of how monogamy was created (and this guy was talking about polyamory in the 1800s, which was surprising). Obviously it is very anti-capitalist, but it was interesting read.

I don't believe it is true for everyone but in psychology we studied this. As a woman can only get pregnant once a month and is then pregnant for 9 months they look for suibtable sperm. Men produce sperm practically constantly and can fertilise as many women they can. Therefore there was always a stigma around men wanting to go out and plant their seed. I believe the majority are monogamous and that men aren't as bad as women.

From a biological standpoint, a man can father potentially hundreds of children as he will be able to produce viable sperm even well into his 80's. However, women have an approximate 20-30 year window to bear children. It is in a man's best BIOLOGICAL interest to father as many children possible by copulating with as many partners as possible. This would naturally suggest that humans are not inherently monogamous. And they aren't. However, I am a Christian and believe that even though some or many may feel the drive for multiple partners or polyamorous relationships, this is a passion we must not allow ourselves to become enslaved to. Through prayer and fasting we can overcome these physical passions (including gluttony, sloth, and other sins of the flesh). Monogamy and marriage are beautiful and sacred because of the sacrifices we make for them.

I think women are naturally monogamous and men aren't. I think that is one of our biggest differences between men and women.
