Do membrane sweeps really work?

Have any of you had a membrane sweep? How quickly did it work?

I had 2. First one nothing except bad cramps and contractions too far apart.. Second time, I went into labor the next morning😊 baby is now 5 days old

I had a membrane sweep at 40 weeks and 2 days (Monday). I was 2 cm dilated and 70% thinned out. It didn't hurt but was very uncomfortable and a lot of pressure and cramping. I went into labor Tuesday and 11 am and had her Wednesday at 4:43 am

Membranes striped Monday at 11 AM, water broke the next morning at 645.

Had one at 38 and 5 at about 2-3 pm. I was in L& D at 39 weeks exactly at 1 am. Admitted at 4 am, pushing by 8 am, baby here at 10:18am!

I had one with my son and it didn't hurt as such it was more uncomfortable kinda like having a smear test uncomfortable. I had it at 40w and delivered at 41w +1 d so no it's didn't work, that doesn't mean to say it won't work for you, people respond differently - I personally think if you baby is comfortable nothing 'natural' will get them evicted early xx

I just had one done Friday. Lost my mucus plug Saturday morning, and now have been having some bloody discharge yesterday and this morning. Some mild and irregular contractions but nothing else yet.  I had really been hoping it would've worked and I would have had a baby this weekend! ☹️ As far as pain- I would say it was more uncomfortable than actually painful. Truly wasn't as bad as I expected. I was already dilated 3cm and 70% effaced though. Not sure if that has an impact on the pain level at all.

I had one done at 38 + 5 and I was dilated to a 2 and 50% effaced. It was very uncomfortable during. But the pain went away as soon as my doctor stopped. I had bleeding afterwards for an hour or 2 and then it went to spotting. I had it done at 10:30 am and by 2:30 I was having contractions around 12 minutes apart. I lost my plug around 1 am and the contractions increased. By morning I was at 4 minutes apart for contractions so I went to L&D. They checked me an I was still only a 2 and 50% effaced so I was sent home, where my contractions eventually eased up and stopped completely. My baby is high up and big so they are worried I'll need a c-section. I likely stalled out but the membrane sweep did make things start. Had my baby been lower and able to get through I probably would have had him then.
