Statistics and Facts Vs. Personal Anecdotes (Please READ the entire description BEFORE responding thanks)

Often times on this app people tend to argue proven stats and facts with personal anecdotes. If you are given unbiased sources, stats, facts, and research, how is it that you dispute them with your personal experiences? You personal experiences do not reflect that of the world nor even the country as you are 1 person out of billions and that is not how stats and studies work, therefore I am curious, as are others, as to why so many of you on this app believe that your personal experience overrides actual data? An example of this would be on the Welfare thread where despite the given government resources, people still chose to say they believe welfare should be cut because they know most people are lazy and don't work, when stats have proven otherwise.
Thanks.
