Hey ladies is there such thing as too much blood and clots? I never bled this much during my whole recovery and find it odd that it's happening so late.

I was told if there was a sudden increase in blood or if I was passing clots larger than a golf ball, that I should call the doctor's office and let them know.

Answer

The rule of thumb is usually if you're soaking through a pad an hour or are passing clots the size of golf balls or larger then go to the ER. A few things could be happening. You could be being more active which can cause an increase in bleeding. Rest should help with that. Or you could have passed a clot in which case the increased bleeding should be temporary and slow within a day or two. Or you could have transitioned right from pp bleeding to your first period. This is especially likely if you're not breastfeeding. Worst case scenario is that you're having a late pp hemorrhage which is extremely rare and you would be soaking those pads every hour. If that's the case head to the ER. If you develop increased pain, fever, foul smelling discharge, head to the doctor. I hope that helps.
