Properly strapping baby in carseat?

Question

I wasnt sure where to put this, but I am a ftm and I am getting induced tomorrow. I was wondering if someone could share with me how to properly strap in your baby? Maybe photos as well? I have heard a lot of women on here talking about it and I figured I could ask for help here. Thank you in advance

You can go to your local fire department and they will inspect the car seat, show u how to properly install it and how to effectively harness the baby in the seat. I did that w my first and will do it again with my second as well as them making sure my daughter is suitable for her new seat

I would encourage you to check out the car seat for the littles Facebook page. While nurses at the hospitals are helpful and well-meaning, they are not car seat technicians and may not always give correct advice. The same goes for fire stations- most don't have an actual car seat tech in the station. You can't do it now, but search for a certified car seat tech in your area (safekids is a good organization) and meet with them soon after baby is born to be sure your baby is strapped in correctly and seat is installed correctly. Our hospital actually held a class the day after delivery. My husband attended & they go to your car as well to make sure everything is correct.

You make sure the chest strap clip is aligned with the armpits. And you make sure the straps that meet the car seat are at or below the shoulders. And the straps need to be tight enough that you can't pinch them but not too tight.

If you have questions after reading what everyone says, you can also ask the hospital to help you make sure the baby is in the car seat correctly. They checked with my first two before they would let us leave the hospital. I am horrible at explaining, so I don't even want to attempt it... I'll poetically be more confusing than helpful. Congrats on meeting your LO soon!

Most hospitals will check baby before you leave the hospital and let you know what/if anything is wrong. Just make sure straps aren't too loose and chest clip is where it's supposed to be. I'm sure you can find some videos on YouTube. But they can definitely help you out at the hospital

Ditto on what everyone else is saying. With my son the nurse checking me out of the hospital wouldn't let us go until there was only at most two fingers space/wiggle room between the straps and his chest so as to not be too tight but not too loose either, but your nurses/doctors may tell you something different.

Make sure the chest clip is over the sternum and don't ever put your baby in the car seat with a coat on!
