I think this is circumstantial - factoring your children's age and dependency on you + the type of drugs. If my parents (52 & 59) had weed brownies right now, recreationally, I wouldn't say they're bad parents even though my brother is 22 and living with them.

However, if a breastfeeding mom is snorting cocaine at a party then goes home to feed her baby - that's definitely not good parenting.

I ingest weed sometimes when my daughter is in bed for the night. I'm confused as to how some people would think that makes me a bad mom. It certainly doesn't affect the way I function during the day with her.

No addiction? Do you mean like Marijuana? Personally I think it's quite selfish to be high when you're supposed to be raising children. I was addicted to heroin when I got pregnant and I did a lot of prescription drugs too. When I discovered I was pregnant, I stopped. It's what you have to do, in my opinion. Obviously you shouldn't be on drugs when pregnant, but even once you have children, I wouldn't say it's appropriate to be popping pills even if the kids are in bed, asleep. Obviously I am no saint, so I don't have much room to judge, but I just don't agree with it.

I believe that if it is illegal and harmful to the body, yes. I think even cigarettes and alcohol. Why would you risk your life? Maybe not because it is your life, but what will that do to your kids? My mom is that way and I constantly worry about her! She has an addiction problem, but even her cigarettes make me terrified to lose her! My husbands father was also a drinker and he became emotionally abusive when drunk. He ruined 2 marriages with it and my husband hates all substances like that because he knows what they do. Also if you do it around your kids it can be harmful to their health. And also if you get caught and get taken away and put in foster care. All if my friends that were in foster care absolutely hated it, and I don't think kids should have to go through that. It might not make you a bad parent, but definitely not the best.

It honestly really depends. Weed it doesn't matter if your child isn't around. But if you're doing lines of coke or shit like that even while you kid is at school, you need to reevaluate your life.

But I do feel if you and your on a trip with your SO or your friends and your kids by family for a couple days, I guess. As long as it doesn't interfere with your parenting.

I don't like to be out of control. I don't drink, I've never done a drug, yes not even weed, and I don't smoke. That being said, I do take antidepressants. I'm definite guilty of judging parents who drink/do recreational drugs. I think certain prescriptions are different, if I don't take my meds I can't think straight. I don't think they alter my state of mind but rather make me function normally. Maybe I'm a complete hypocrite. Who knows?

My brother smokes weed. He is a father of 5. He never buys weed before food, clothing, bills, or anything else the kids need. I don't smoke weed, but I think he is an amazing father!
