Moms- what do you do?

I'm currently a SAHM, but honestly I'm looking forward to going back to work. I love being able to stay home with my baby for now, but I'd really like to further my career/have that human interaction again. I'd just like my LO to be a bit older first. What do you mom's plan to do, and do you like it? What are the pros and cons you have found? Tia

I work full-time. As much as I love being with my baby and miss him, for me, working is really important. We could afford for me to stay home, but I think it's good to not relie on someone else for money. If my husband decided to leave me tomorrow (we have a great marriage, so this is just hypothetical)  I like knowing I have my own career and money. If I was staying at home I would be starting over in the workforce if and when I returned to work. I also don't like the idea that I would have no money going into my own retirement. There are pros and cons to both ways,  it just depends on your own priorities and situation.

I work full time,  but for me that is 3 days a week. I'm a nurse and work 12 hour days. It is perfect for me because I still get to spend 4 days a week home with my little man. I world go nuts if I didn't work. I crave adult conversation and using my brain.  While I loved my 12 week maternity leave I was so ready to go back to work at the end of it.  It helps that we have a good daycare center that we trust.

I have a 5 year old (starts kindergarten this fall) and a 5 month old!  I've been a sahm for over 5 years now and I love it! It's not for everyone and sometimes I think it'd be easier to go to work lol!  I get adult interaction other ways like story times and parks where I meet other moms, our pool...plus my husband and I get date nights or go out with friends a couple times a month!  Luckily we live in a city where there is plenty to do and the weather is nice more than it's yucky (Austin, TX)!  I'm also not worried about my kids getting their socializing because my oldest has been in dance since she was 2 and played sports, she sees her friends all the time and is definitely a social butterfly!  She's also super smart and ahead of her age group so learning isn't a worry either! I put in ther time to teach her everything, she knows how to do more stuff then some kids I know who are in daycare/pre k. The one on one helps! This is just my opinion! I will work again eventually but for now I'm so happy I can focus on my kids!

I am a nanny. So baby girl comes with. It's a win/win situation for us.

I'm full time elementary school counselor. I love the work I do but I hate my job right now. I hate that I have to give up so many of my hours to other people's children and leave my own baby with strangers (he's in daycare). His daycare teacher spends more of his awake time with him than I do. If it were an option for me I would be a SAHM until my babies were in school. Financially that doesn't work for us, unfortunately.

I was a Sahm with my first for almost a year. I was much happier when I went back to work PART TIME of course I missed my baby but it gave me a lil break. I went back to work with my second when he was 3 months but I work at a daycare and get to take both with :) if I wasn't working at a daycare my plan was to wait till he was 6 months and got his flu shot. I'm very happy working part time and I still get a break but I'm very comfortable knowing my kids are one room over

When I was ready to go back to work, I was able to start back slowly and do some things from home. But it was a nightmare. I couldn't work with the baby being so needy. And when she was asleep, last thing I wanted to do was work. So I just went back in part time. Hopefully soon I'll be back in the swing of working full time again.

I'm currently working 20 hours a week, which has been great for me. I was lucky though that my job was able to downshift that way. I had a couple of 40+ hour weeks and it was hard because my son would go to sleep basically as soon as I got us home, so I really only saw him for nightfeedings.

In the fall I'm switching to fulltime grad school, which will be interesting. My hope is to do a lot of my work in the evenings, so we can continue the three days a week of daycare, but we'll see what happens.
