Background: my nationality is Czech and the Czech spelling would be Lukáš. We plan to call him Luke, regardless. Which American spelling would be less confusing?

I think either one is fine! Lucas "looks" more traditionally English/American, but seriously, either is fine. They will be pronounced the same. Congrats!

Personally I've seen both and I like the traditional Czech spelling a lot, nobody will ever confuse the name "Lukas" or how to pronounce it :)

I've seen Lucas and Lukas, though Lucas seems more common. They're both pronounced the same some go with your gut.

I worked in childcare for a long time and have seen it spelled both ways, but never saw or heard of a child being mocked for the spelling either way. I say go with Lukas.

I'm curious---is it pronounced "Lukash" with this spelling? My original surname was Czech, with an Š, and it is pronounced as a SH sound.

Obviously it doesn't matter if you're calling him Luke anyway. Just wondering.
