Convertible car seat that's safe and affordable?

My son needs to be moved up I believe as he's super uncomfortable and we have a long trip
Coming up. There are too many options on the market and I don't want to buy something that he'll be still uncomfortable in. Thank you!

My daughter has the maxi cosi pria 85, I love it, it has a lot of cushion so looks extremely comfty and also the material it's made from helps with them getting hot in the car seat. I included a pic of her in it, they come in various colors, be aware tho it is a heavier/bigger car seat so if yu plan on moving it from vehicle to vehicle, might not be yur best choice but I personally dnt mind cuz it's typically stays in my car.

Here's the skinny on car seats. Their heavily regulated by the Federal Government, meaning all cars have to pass the same safety tests, even the $29 car seat at Wal-Mary has to pass the same safety test as the $400 one from Buy Buy Baby. Everything else is just fluff.

I got a $59 one from Toys R Us and we really like it. It has no frills but it's a car seat that my LO eats crackers in and has thrown up in on more than one occasion.
