induce?! What do you think?

I'm going to ask my doctor to induce me on the 23rd of June. I'll be 38 weeks. But I'm hoping she will do a membrane sweep two days before at my appointment. I would have no problem waiting until full term but I have two other kids and the only time my dad can take off is the week of the 26th and my mom is coming into town from Maine on the 23rd. I don't trust anyone else with my kids and my two year old doesn't do well with anyone besides my dad. This will be the the first time I've ever left him. I'm already so nervous and I don't know what I'll do if my doctor says no to the induce date. Do you ladies think I'll be denied?

I wouldn't do it. I was induced for my first and the contractions went from 0-100 real quick and I wouldn't willingly choose that. Not to mention if you get induced when your body isn't ready, it can cause you to need a c-section.

I would talk to your doctor about your conserns and see what they say. I know that for me I am having some of the same concerns about who will watch my child when I am in labor and it can be stressful I don't think your time line in unreasonable.

I've been induced 4/5 times at 37-38 weeks and had excellent experiences all times. My last induction last 2 hours start to baby. I loved being in control and knowing my other kids were taken care of. Inductions were result of rapid delivery w baby I wasn't induced with. (4 to baby in 30 mins)

I wouldn't do it either, being induced sets you up for a cascade of intervention because labour is forced and it doesn't ensure your baby willl come on a specific date that suits. It's the one time in your life you should be selfish and focus solely on this new baby and your body and trust that other people will mind your children for you, Plus you have two months to get the kids used to someone else.

Due dates are just estimates. You risk baby having complications due to being not as far along as you think.

Plus just FYI an induction (especially if you haven't been induced before, even if you have had babies before) can take up to a week, and increases risk of csection.

I wouldn't do it. Unless there is a medical reason interventions that early are not always good. Even though you may be "full term" you don't know how long your baby needs "cook" for. Your baby may need those last 2-4 weeks before he/she is ready. Plus I don't think these days doctors do request inductions that early unless there is a medical reason. Don't risk you or your babies life. It may be stressful to worry about when/what ifs but just let your body control the situation. Don't rush it

My first pregnancy 6 years ago was induced at 39 weeks electively.... went in at 8am by 5:30pm i had my son in my arms.... this pregnancy is high risk and she will be induced early as well....

I'm due July 24th and asked my doctor if we can induce before the end of the month when my insurance changes. He seemed open to it, but that is also if baby goes beyond the due date. I don't know I would induce two weeks early. See what your doctor says and a lot will depend on your body and baby at that time. I would try to arrange alternative arrangements if possible with your dad and kids.

Most doctors won't do an elective induction before 39 weeks. In fact in some states without a good enough reason they can lose their licenses.

I think it depends on your doctor and your hospital policy.  I know my doc will electively induce if my cervix is favorable at 39 weeks.  She mentioned she can and would only take a baby earlier than that if she absolutely had to.  I don't know what that meant tho - I fell into the 39 week group and it was totally electively bc of my husbands schedule.  We'll do the same with this one.  Electively induce at 39 weeks on a Monday.
