Is it bad to let a baby cry it out?

That depends. A baby younger than 3 months is in the "4th trimester" and really needs that constant attention. They have no capabilities to self soothe. After that, leaving them to fuss for a few minutes when you know nothing is wrong is a totally different thing. That being said, full on cry it out was never something I felt comfortable doing, so I never did. My mindset is that I know she is going to cry, but I don't want her crying alone. I want her to know I'm here when she needs me.

I think it depends. I've heard some moms let their kids cry it out and leave them for a half hour. Personally, I wouldn't leave them that long. But I don't think there's anything wrong with letting them cry for a few minutes.

I try not to, but I've only ever dealt with other people's children (I'll be a ftm Nov 2017) it may be different with my own baby but i doubt it If i cant even let someone else's baby cry I out lol...?😞

I feel indifferent about it! I can understand both perspectives. So I'd say its ultimately just your decision!

I can't really do it, but I know parents that swear by Ferber. I disagree completely with CIO, but I did consider Ferber for a bit and they are completely different from what I can tell. Each parent needs to find what works for them though. 
The real Ferber method is known to be effective, but even he said not to start until 6 months, and you don't just ignore baby until they stop crying. Step 1 is making sure they're not communicating a need (hungry, dirty diaper, pain, sick, etc).  If all that is good, it becomes about providing reassurance as you give them time to self sooth. Check in 5 min, then 10, then 15, etc. Reassure baby each time but slowly increase the intervals to give them time to calm down on their own, but also to realize that they won't just get their way if they cry long enough, so using a timer is key. That's the theory anyway.

I read up on Ferber, but ended up being more a give em 5 after checking everything is fine then snuggle as needed kind of mom. I just don't have that level of structure and consistency in me. If it got to the point that sleep deprivation was winning and I was borderline breakdown, then I'd hide under pillows until it was over even if the hubby was trying to calm kiddo down, which usually lasted no more than 10 min before I was holding baby again because mom hormones. There are times only mom will do unfortunately.

There are studies that suggest that CIO raises the stress levels in baby and causes long term anxiety and trust issues since the baby learned early on that they can't trust the world to meet their needs, most of those studies seem to be based on letting them cry until they stop without intervention though. True Ferber seems to try to prevent those very issues by providing firmness and reassurance simultaneously.

It depends on the age of baby. My 1 year old I let cry it out, but never a newborn.
