First month: start about 20 days before expected period. Take in late morning or early afternoon. Start taking twice per day when the lines start to get darker until you get a positive (test line as dark or darker than control).

After first month you will have a better idea of when to start taking them but should start at least 3 days prior to when you think you will ovulate. Taking day before or day of ovulation is usually too late.

Answer

It depends on how long your cycle is. There should be instructions on the packaging or in a leaflet of whatever type you're using. Found this image googling. I have shorter cycles so I start on day 5. If you are using strips, you will need to compare day to day to see when your line gets darker. If you are using digital, the testing stick will compare your daily results to see when there is a "peak" of change. Hope that makes sense lol
