Where can I get a birth plan?

Do I write mine out? Get it from the hospital or is there somewhere I can get one to fill out?

Answer

A birthplan is to ensure that your wishes and demands during birth is passed on to the doctors and nurses. If you want to breastfeed, tear naturally or being clipped during birth,  epidural or not- and so on.

It is not mandatory, and I strongly recommend to not have a very spesific birth plan. Read up on what can happen during birth, and have an open mind. I just had a wish to not have an epidural, but I was open to it if neccesary.

So many things will not go according to a plan, so to have your mind set on a spesific birth experience can be very negative.

The best birth plan is no birth plan. Remember how upset Katherine Geigel was on Knocked Up? Real Labor is often a lot like that so it's better to just go with the flow.

The birth plan is more for my husband  this is my 3rd child and his first. I know how things change and I've never had one in the past. Also some things I'm doing different like breastfeeding.

They actually have a sample one on glow you can use/view...but often where you decide to give birth will have a sample one as part of the orientation to l&d for you. You can also just write one up with your wishes and discuss with your Ob
