missed period but negative pregnancy test

Okay so last month (it usually comes around the 21st of every month) I had my period for 4 days it was light and on the 6th of this month I had extremely light spotting for that day and that was it now I'm 5 days late for my period but when I took a pregnant test it came back negative?? Anyone have any ideas?
