Can I eat a ham and turkey sandwich made from home? I've been wanting one so bad! Currently 20 weeks!

If I'm craving deli meat I just put it in the microwave to make sure everything is cooked off. My nurse suggested it.

Pregnant women have a higher chance of getting listeria than non-pregnant women. Always heat the food up. Look it up. It's nothing to play around with. People are lucky who don't get it but I wouldn't chance it.

I have eaten cold turkey sandwiches every day for the last 24w and 3 days and me and the baby are just fine. It's been my daily breakfast for the last five years and I have kept it the same. It's completely fine. Your risk of listeria is basically the same even if your aren't pregnant.

The last outbreak of listeria is deli meats was in 2010 in Canada...it's an outdated recommendation, and if you are that concerned about listeria, you should stay away from dairy and veggies cuz that's where your more likely to get it from. ☺ You also aren't more likely to get listeria while pregnant, same risks as everyone else.

Deli meats should always be heated until they are steaming while pregnant. If you need more info look it up. Deli meats can contain listeria that is extremely dangerous to a growing baby. Heat it completely through and then chow down momma!

It's kind of up to you. Everyone has different opinions on this. Some say they eat it all the time and the baby is fine and it's ridiculous to not eat it. However people like me on the other hand would rather just give it up for 9 months and not risk the chance of getting listeria and it being deadly to my child. Are the chances high of it no probably not but it wasn't worth the risk for me. Do I miss it and want it more than anything of course! But my baby is healthy and that makes me happier than a cold ham and cheese sandwich. Some woman will tell you to just heat the meat up but god damnit that's not the same as a cold sandwich!

If you eat it in moderation you'll be fine. I was told not to eat deli meats unless the meat was heated up, but I craved sandwiches sometimes. Almost 32 weeks pregnant now and baby is kicking and is just fine ☺️

My one craving is subway, so the cold cut combos are my friend. It's just rhe nitrates you have to watch out for but I would say it's all good to have a deli sandwich
