Doctor recommended dark Karo Syrup for constipated newborn?

Baby is 4 days old and constipated, as well as in so much pain. Pediatrician recommended dark karo syrup but how much and how do I do it? Also has anyone used it and does it work? Hate seeing my baby in pain!

I would never give Karo to a newborn. Their tummies aren't mature enough yet for anything other than breast milk really. I've never had success with Karo ever, even though I didn't try it until at least 6 months.

They took the ingredient out of that that helped with constipation years ago. No need to give baby that this early. Look up baby massage for constipation on you tube.
You can also put Vaseline on the end of a q tip and gently stimulate the area around his bum and insert the tip a bit and twist. Baby should go within a few minutes.

I have no idea but invest in a happi tummi it is like a heat pack and helps with gas and constipation.

I tried the syrup but my son was 5 months or so, it helped him go. Once he got regular we stopped. I'm not so sure about a newborn.

My friends baby has problems with constipation and her pediatrician said miralax and also Vaseline on a q-tip to stimulate and break things up.... I would call the doctors office and get more recommendations on what to use....

When my son was a newborn I did either 1-2oz of water with a tsp of sugar or I did water with apple juice and it helped my son go.

I think it's like a tsp in a bottle of milk. Maybe 4 oz? I tried it. Didn't work for us but I know others it has worked for.
