How do you measure the first trimester?

I say once you've finished your 12th week and in your 13th week.

I've heard 12, 13 and 14 so I waited until I was 14 weeks to say I was officially in the second trimester.

Beginning your 13th week is beginning your 2nd trimester. I don't know why there is so much discrepancy with this whole thing. I came across so many different answers as well when I was around that time in my pregnancy. But logically, 13 weeks makes sense. A pregnancy is made up of 9 months. Each month has about 4-5 weeks in it. So that means if you divide 40 weeks by 3 trimesters, it comes to 13.3 weeks. So technically, 13 1/2 weeks marks your second trimester. I guess some people might like to be nitpicky and say 14 weeks. I claimed 13 weeks as my second trimester. I don't think it really matters that much.
