is addiction preventable?

so i was on another topic similar to this and one of the comments said that addiction is a disease that is 100% preventable. a lot of people agreed but a lot of people didn't either. so what do y'all think?

No because addiction has been traced back to a gene and runs in families. The gene can be triggered by a variety of environmental factors like prescription medicine, sugar, alcohol, etc. once triggered the person loses their normal process of thinking to the chemicals in the brain.

No not preventable. You can avoid drugs all you want but you'll always have that gene lying dormant. I'd just suggest not doing drugs period to prevent yourself from finding out.

No. If it's not drugs or alcohol, it could be something else. Addictions go beyond alcoholism and drug use, you can be addicted to anything. It's genetic and part of your personality.

As others have said, the person can refrain from doing drugs, but people can even be addicted to anything, even working out.

But you can become addicted to MANY things besides drugs.

People can be addicted to sex, porn, food, soda, gambling, picking their nose...anything can be addictive for somebody who carries the gene.

It can't be prevented. You can get addicted to anything, not just drugs. You can get addicted to exercise, food, shopping, etc. You don't know it's something you'll become addicted to.
