Blood draw at 9 month appointment?

My friend said her 9 month old had a blood draw "to check everything". She said her older son had it at 9 months too. Out pediatrician didn't say anything about it.
Is out pediatrician slacking or is a blood draw at 9 months not routine?

We have not had any blood draws my daughters 10.5 months

My daughter only got a finger prick at her 9month to check her iron.

Our pediatrician wants blood before the one year checkup. Lead and stuff.

They were going to check my lo's iron at her 9 month visit but I had it pushed back to her 12 month visit.

They told me they were going to at 6 months but I didn't have insurance and they said I could wait till next time but then they didn't say anything about it so I didn't either. I don't see the need if everything else is good

Our pediatrician said we could pay extra to have an in office prick to check iron levels and lead levels or don't pay extra and go to the lab and have them draw blood from the vein...we obviously paid the extra and they pricked her big toe, this was at the 9 month appointment! It's pretty standard now you can look it up on kidshealth.org or the CDC website!
