If you have sex there is always a chance to get pregnant. I met a lady yesterday who got pregnant from having sex on her period. Its unlikely but completely possible

It all depends on how early in your cycle you ovulate, your vaginal pH, and the vitality of his sperm.

For example, say you have a short cycle, 24 days, and a long luteal phase, 14 days. This would have you ovulating on day 10 of your cycle. The maximum lifespan I have seen given for sperm is 10 days (though 3-5 days in fertile conditions is what I see most often). So in this scenario, if you have sex right before your period, and your vaginal pH remains hospitable, and his sperm is very strong, and you ovulate early, then yes it could be possible that you could get pregnant from that. I have also seen a woman claim that her eggs, instead of becoming unviable after the 48-hour window, actually remain viable through her luteal phase into her period. She claims that she is able to conceive on her period if sperm is present as her still-viable egg is making its way out of her uterus during her menses.

I have seen no scientific literature that could support this latter scenario, but I also know that science remains largely ignorant about female sexuality, so take that as you will.
