Does the size of the engagement ring matter?

I've heard more times than not that the size and price of an engagement ring matters. I've never felt that it does so I wanted to see how many people actually think it's important.

Honestly no, I had so many ideas of beautiful rings that I thought I wanted....until I got one. And I fell in love with it. I don't think it has anything to do with the ring itself, but more the promise it comes with and the man making the promise. :)

He could ask me to marry him with a pop tab and I'd still say yes. The money doesn't matter to me at all. I want a marriage. I'm not the kind that needs the big fancy ring, the big fancy wedding.

This debate is so cliche and old. Everyone knows that diamonds are basically worthless and only desired after genius advertising by the DeBeers diamond company in the 1930s. Does size matter?? Yes and no. The tradition of giving a woman or her family a gift when you proposed marriage dates way back to Biblical  times. I think it's sweet. The gift, the size and value of the gift are all indicators of how hard the man had to work to obtain it. It's a symbol of how much effort and thought he put in to the relationship and the decision for marriage. Shouldn't marriage be a thoughtful decision??

So size, I believe is pretty relative of how long the man saved to buy the ring. (Because today we are talking over priced diamonds and metal choices as opposed to boxes of coins or  livestock as dowry) 
In this sense, size matters. Where size doesn't matter is the actual ring itself. Say you're marrying a pizza delivery guy who saved all year and thought of you and how he would propose....that might by a good little ct. And that means a lot, for a pizza guy. Say a business owner saves for a year and you get 2 cts. Does the pizza guy love his girl less? Nah. Material things really don't matter but you get my drift that the thoughtfulness and the dedication behind the ring does matter, and sometimes that is reflected in size, but it's all relative. 
I have a 4ct ring. The center stone is a whopping 3 cts alone, and clear. But I also got fake boobs before we were engaged and my husband told me after I got my boobs he had to up the size of the ring to make sure it was big enough to be seen beside my new boobs. Lol as you can tell, we don't take anything too seriously....

No way!!!! What matters is I'm married to my best friend. He picked it out himself and I love it! He feels bad he didn't get "bigger". We paid cash and bought a house instead.

My engagement ring was a promise ring, and we're celebrating our one year so my husband got me an "upgrade" the only one I liked out of three stores was another promise ring lol it was more expensive then my first but not my much. (1st was 150, 2nd was 500) it's hard for me because I have such a small ring size I can't get a ring with a lot of stuff on the sides of the ring. But I love my rings :)
