IUD: no sex before implantation?

I'm getting an IUD in a few days and my doctors office just called asking if I had been abstaining from sex for the past 2 weeks.

Is this normal? Why is this necessary?

To make sure you don't get pregnant at all before putting it in. It's very harmful if you do happen to be pregnant so I would say it's pretty necessary.

Yes they will do a pregnancy test before putting it in they want to make sure there's no chance of pregnancy
