Missed the surge or not ovulating ?

I had 7 days of the blinking smiley. I have been testing only once a day in the morning. Now today I got an empty circle. .. could have I missed the surge ? How many hours does the solid smiley usually stays... or did I not likely ovulate. ..should I just stop testing for this month. ..? Thank you ! 
Note that we had a chance to bd yesterday after I got the blinking smiley. ...

I decided to screw the box and just keep testing w that blinking face and it went on to blink for 20 days and I ran out! All my cheap test strips have equal lines medium dark in color. I'm on CD40. I'm taking a oregnancy test subday and if its negative I'm calling the doc to get some meds to induce my period. I also had two MC in a row so my body is all sorts of whacked out right now
